Inscriptie 'DONNE DIR LA REYNE AU SR CAPPERON EICIER SON CHIROGIEN/DENTISTE LE 2 MAY 1749'. 19de eeuwse kopie naar het Louis XV origineel van de hand van Jean-Joseph de Saint Germain (meester in 1748 te Parijs). Van het originele Louis XV model van deze klok bestaan er verschillende versies, met kleine aanpassingen in de houding van de engeltjes, of eenvoudige versies zonder engeltjes. Eén van deze versies bevindt zich in de collectie van het Louvre (OA 9398, leg Lebey, 1945). Onderhavig exemplaar is een vermoedelijk 19de eeuwse kopie naar één van deze originele modellen, waarvan de inscriptie leest als 'DONNE PAR LA REYNE AU SR CAPPERON ECUYER SON CHIRURGIEN DENTISTE LE 2 MAI 1749'. Deze Jean-François Capperon aan wie de klok geschonken werd, was de 'chirurgien opérateur' van de Franse koning en koningin tussen 1746 en 1752. 94 x 44 Description FR Cartel. Copie du 19ème siècle d'après le modèle original d'époque Louis XV par Jean-Joseph de Saint Germain. On connaît plusieurs versions d'après le modèle original de Jean-Joseph de Saint-Germain (maître à Paris en 1748), avec des variations dans la position des anges ou des versions sans anges. Une de ces versions se trouve dans la collection du Louvre (OA 9398, leg Lebey, 1945). Notre cartel est une copie du 19ème siècle d'après un modèle d'époque Louis XV dont l'inscription originale se lit 'DONNE PAR LA REYNE AU SR CAPPERON ECUYER SON CHIRURGIEN DENTISTE LE 2 MAI 1749'. Multiple versions of the original Louis XV model are known, with slight alterations to position of the angels, or simple versions without angels. One of those original clocks is part of the Louvre collection (OA 9398, leg Lebey, 1945). He later went on to study under the renowned sculptor Giovanni Seleroni. It was under Seleroni’s guidance that Calvi developed the outstanding sensitivity and refinement that became the hallmark of his modelling. Calvi relished working in bronze and marble, often combining the two materials to create the most striking and effective results. Many of his works were exhibited throughout Europe and America, most notably at London’s Royal Academy between 1872 and 1883 (the year prior to the sculptor’s death). Works exhibited at the Royal Academy included Selika and Othello in 1872, Lucifer in 1879 and Ariadne the following year (both marble statuettes), Uncle Tom, also exhibited in 1880 and three years later a Minstrel curiously entitled Oh Goodness Gracious Me! Calvi’s works were a great success, and several were repeated on occasion in order to meet the demand for them. Deze vrouwelijke bodhisattva is gezeten in dhyanasana op een dubbele lotusbasis met parelboorden, gekleed in een los gewaad, aan de boorden gegraveerd met florale motieven, en rijkelijk getooid met armbanden, halskettingen en oorbellen. De drie hoofden, alle met een derde oog, dragen een kroon bezet met turkoois. Boven de kroon is er een hoge ushisha bekroond met een juweel. In zes handen houdt ze verschillende attributen: een klein boeddhabeeld, een pijl, een dubbele vajra, een nectarpot, een boog en een lasso. De twee vrije handen maken het gebaar van dharmachakra mudra en varada mudra. Origineel verguldsel, originele lotussokkel in repoussé-techniek en originele bodemplaat. Usnisavijaya is een populaire godin van het 'lange leven' en 'moeder van alle boeddha's', ze is een emanatie van Vairocana. 35.5 x 27 x 20 Description FR Ushnishavijaya. Ce bodhisattva féminin est assis en dhyanasana sur une double base lotiforme à bords perlés. Elle est vêtue d'une robe gravée aux bords de motifs floraux, et richement orné de bracelets, de colliers et de boucles d'oreilles. Les trois têtes, toutes avec troisième oeil, sont surmontées d'une couronne sertie de turquoize. Derrière la couronne, un haut ushisha surmonté d'un bijou. Dans ses bras elle tient une image du Bouddha, une flèche, un vishvavajra, une coupe d'ambroisie, un arc et un lasso, les deux mains libres en dharmachakra mudra et varada mudra. Six hands are holding attributes including a diminutive Buddha, an arrow, a nectar vase, a bow and a lasso, the two free hands are held in dharmachakra mudra en varada mudra.
